Oceans topic trip to the Sea Life Centre and to Gt Yarmouth Beach

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the Sea Life centre as part of our learning about Oceans. It was great to see lots of different marine life and to talk about their habitats and food chains. We were able to meet a starfish and got to touch it to experience for ourselves more about the unique life that it has. As the weather was so kind to us, we took the opportunity to go onto the beach. We skimmed stones, made sandcastles, drew in the sand and also did some litter picking - we found lots of plastic pollution! We had a brilliant day!

Learning how to protect our oceans

We were very lucky to be visited in school by Mrs Smith who works for Cefas, an organisation involved in marine science and technology. Mrs Smith told us about her work and how marine life can be protected from elements like plastic pollution and noise/motion pollution from wind turbines and boat traffic. We were able to look at how long different types of pollution take to break down in our seas and the types of changes we can make to reduce the amount of plastic that we use. We were very interested in the 2 Minute Beach Clean initiative which we decided we could be a part of during our school trip to Gt Yarmouth.

Ocean Topic Homework

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm for the Oceans Topic through the fabulous homework that was shared. Homework projects like these provide pupils with the chance to share their learning at home  as well as offering opportunities for children and families to work together. It is always lovely for the children to be able to practise their communication skills too by sharing their homework with their classmates.
