Hi everyone,

It's Friday again and if you've managed to plant anything in your garden they will be getting a lovely watering with so many showers over the past couple of days.

Here are some things to think about today before I plan a brand new week of activities that will be shared on the school website over the weekend.

Happy and safe weekend everyone x

Thursday 30th April 2020

Hi all,

I've recorded a video to tell you a little more about how to access the Sir Linkalot spelling resources which are free during lockdown and well worth a look at.

Also, as I can see that lots of you are enjoying Maths at the moment - I'd like to draw your attention to the Classroom Secrets document which can be found on the Rowan class page of the school website - I will also pin a copy onto Edmodo. Lastly, here is the mindfulness task for today.

Wednesday 29th April 2020

Hi all,

Here are some Literacy and Maths (just realised the Maths is on the side - apologies) pointers related to the weekly home learning grid. Also included is the mindfulness task for today. I will set up a new Sumdog challenge for today which will be available from 8am until 8pm. For those wanting another Literacy based task, as our Literacy tasks are more observation based this week, I have attached a link to a reading comprehension task. Your child may require some support to read this or may like to choose their level of challenge (1 to 3 stars) in order to read it independently.

Friday 24th April 2020

Hi Rowan Class,

I hope that you and your family are all still happy and safe. As the weeks go by, it is feeling very strange to be recording little videos for you rather than seeing all of your happy faces in front of me. I am missing you all very much and it has been lovely to be able to see what you have been up to on Edmodo. Continue to look after everyone around you as I know you will have been doing already.

Here are some pointers for the tasks today.

Thursday 23rd April 2020

Morning everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday? I have included a little video of the Literacy task which is drawing a story plan for 'A Mouse Called Julian'. You may want to watch the video again of Joe Todd-Stanton reading the story again to remind you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDdJxeP3ip0

I would love to see your story plans! I don't know about you but I have loved spending time sketching this week.

Here are the mindfulness tasks for today too.

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Hi everyone, hope you are all well?

Here are also the mindfulness activities for Wednesday.

Mindfulness for Tuesday 21st April

Tuesday 21st April 2020

Morning everyone!

Some ideas to get you started today!

I meant to say that you could also extend the maths by thinking about the numbers as lots of 10, so my first example would be 30 + 20 + 50 = 100.

Here are the links that I mention in the video to the food chain activity.

Hope to see what you've been up to later on Edmodo!

Monday 20th April 2020

Hi everyone,

The grid of activities for this week are on the link below (I will also put a link to these on Edmodo).

Rowan Home Learning Grid Summer Week 1

You could do the tasks in order, choosing a Maths, Literacy and Other for each day, or you could do them in a different order throughout the week. The only one you will need to start with this week is the Literacy task that says 'Start here'.

I'm going to do a couple of the activities myself which I will share with you on Edmodo too.

Here is a mindfulness task to also try today. This type of activity is an activity to start your day - it helps you feel strong, focused and confident as you begin each day. I'll be adding a new one each day.

Really looking forward to see what you've been up to later on Edmodo!

Mrs Good

Wednesday 1st April

Hey Rowan Class,

It's the last day before the Easter holidays and what a strange end to the Spring term it has been.

I have received a couple of messages via the school office, which I have appreciated - thank you. Miss Yates wonders if parents need to have a gmail account in order to be able to comment? I will try to think of a way around it over the Easter break. Apologies to those of you who have found it tricky to find the blog posts on the class page - I wonder if you would all be able to use the power of social media to assist others in getting to the blog posts if they haven't been able to thus far? Perhaps there is a Rowan Facebook page for example?

I will include a little video to sign off before Easter so here are the final tasks before the holidays if you would like some ideas.

Maths starter - this activity will help you to practise giving clear directions - particularly using 'left' and 'right'.

Maths- we all enjoyed the work we did on Multiplication a couple of months ago where we were arranging multiplications as arrays.  We started to find arrays all over the place! Here are some examples to refresh your memory.

Using whatever you have at home (beads, cars, lego bricks, sweets etc) can you make arrays like the ones above to show different multiplications? For example, how many different arrays can you make with 12 items? 24 items? Can you record these as multiplication sentences? You may like to also try this.
Literacy - Some of you may be practising these as you go along but if you haven't, take the opportunity to practise your spellings and your handwriting. Stuck inside your home learning exercise books was an example of how we join our handwriting and on the Rowan class page on the school website, you will find the Year 1 and 2 spelling lists. Use your best handwriting to practise spelling maybe 5/6 of these words. Challenge yourself to choose words that you know you find tricky. Miss Yates has also put a link to free Read Write Inc e-books on the Home learning page of the school website (under Parents tab).

Outdoor learning - this activity has been taken from our Outdoor learning activities (also found on the school website) and as the sun is continuing to shine at the moment it may be a good one to have a go at.

Hoping you all have a happy and healthy Easter holidays.

Mrs Good
